| Welcome to the original and only Open Platform as a ServiceTM (OPaaS) in the world. As you will see, OPaaS is not just another buzz word. It is "Platform as a Service" taken to the next level. Unlike older traditional Platform as a Service, (e.g., Force.com), you are NOT LOCKED-IN to proprietary programming languages, a specific server, a specific operating system, specific development tools, etc. You can use PHP, Python, RoR, Java, .Net, or whichever language you want! Put your code on any server you want, use any database you want, etc! You are also not limited to what a particular platform can do. With OPaaS, you are only limited by your imagination - and isn't that the way it should be?
Fundamentals
OPaaS is built on the three pillars of solid software engineering. Modularity, openness, and distributed (MOD). In fact, source code does not even need to be moved from where it is or modified to run on the Open Platform as a Service, it can stay right where it is and just needs to be "registered" to work on the Open Platform as a Service! Simply being able to register existing code, along with many other benefits, negates expensive, labor intensive migration and maintenance costs.
Vendor lock-In
Our new emerging "Open Platform as a Service" (OPaaS) addresses the traditional shortcomings of PaaS, (e.g., proprietary development environments, a single or proprietary programming language, data portability, etc.) by letting developers use whichever programming languages, development tools, servers/clouds, etc. they choose.
Cost
OPaaS also addresses cost and who doesn't want to save costs and increase output in these tough economic times? It is a generally accepted fact that 2/3 of the cost of software is actually in the maintenance (bug fixes, new releases, distribution, etc.) With Open Platform as a Service, you dramatically reduce not only the initial development costs, but also the maintenance costs becuase the code and applications are open, flexible, yet encapsulated in a standard format, creating a logical, predictable, manageable application ecosystem.
Peace of Mind
Also and arguably most important, with OPaaS, you are not out of luck like you are if your older traditional PaaS company goes out of business (see Coghead). With Open Platform as a ServiceTM you own and control your code on any server you want!
Make your SaaS a PaaS
You have a SaaS and you want to make it a PaaS because you know it is better. But which PaaS do you choose? If you don't want to be locked-in, limited and vulnerable to all the shortcomings of older PaaS, you'll choose Open PaaS. You can do it yourself by getting an Enterprise Open Developer License, or if you need help migrating from SaaS to Open PaaS, contact us to discuss your particular needs.
Backwards-compatible
You can also create software as a service (SaaS) applications with Open Platform as a ServiceTM because it is completely "backwards-compatible" with SaaS! You can even create one or more PaaS's with Open Platform as a Service! More on this later.
"Wanna Take a Ride?"
We are confident the (some obvious some not so obvious) advantages make it clear an OPEN approach to PaaS is the next logical step in Internet development. There is actually a lot more to say about OPaaS and why this open model is the best we have so far on the Internet, but lets have fun developing it rather than talk about it. So lets not take a great leap backwards with limiting tools and business models. We've come too far. Rather, lets leap forward and stand on the shoulders of millions of developers, billions of lines of code interoperating on an open global network - Wanna take a ride? |
